It can be said that Laimonis Šmits’ great love and chosen path in his ballet career was classical ballet. He has preserved a poster announcing that in the December 29, 1959 performance of The Nutcracker, Inta Karule danced the role of Princess Masha, Laimonis Šmits performed as the Nutcracker Prince, and Valentīns Bļinovs took on the role of the Mouse King.
