About festival

Riga International Short Film Festival 2ANNAS is the oldest and one of the most important short film festivals in the Baltic States, which will take place for the 30th time in 2026. It offers innovative, challenging and socially significant film programs, as well as a wide range of industry professional events and audiovisual art exhibitions, creating one of the most important film industry platforms in the Baltic region, with considerable recognition in the European and global festival scene.

Program

The festival's competition section includes the International Short Film Competition, the Baltic Short Film Competition, the International Mid-Length Film Competition, the International Children's and Youth Short Film Competition, and (since 2026) the International Queer Short Film Competition. The competitions are judged by an international jury, which awards the Anna statuette and other special prizes to the best work in each competition.

Equally important is the festival's thematic non-competitive program, which each year focuses on a specific theme. The theme for 2026, "Alternative", allows us to return thematically to the roots of the festival - the desire to be different, independent, and to seek new approaches to filmmaking, viewing, and distribution. "Alternative" also means the courage to change perspective - to create a new frameworks for thinking in the language and industry of cinema. In addition, the festival's LGBTQ+ section "Pure Queer" offers a program of content-rich and socially relevant films, discussions, and special events, providing an inclusive platform for diverse voices.

Other activities

Alongside the festival, 2ANNAS actively organizes a wide range of events throughout the rest of the year - film screenings, discussions and special audiovisual events in Riga and other regions. The festival is also present at various partner events, such as the "Laba daba" festival, the Latvian Academy of Art Carnival, the "Baltā nakts" cultural forum, etc., showcasing the most notable films from the festival program.
