Industry day CAN WE BE GREEN? – FILM INDUSTRY EXAMPLE, Online, FB live

2ANNAS, in collaboration with Short Film Conference, an organization uniting the global short film community, invites all short film professionals to join 2ANNAS FORUM: CAN WE BE GREEN? — Film Industry Example. Our aim? To spice up the conversation on climate change and nurture it into concrete actions.

As more and more festivals worldwide are broadening the discourse and organizing activities on sustainability, we believe it is high time to gather all relevant information and make it available afterward to be shared and practiced on. A more sustainable future awaits!

12th April

We will begin the first day with three inspiring case studies by festival representatives, who will prove that actions are not only necessary but also possible. Prepare your questions, as their presentations will be followed by a blitz crowdsourced brainstorming session.

To answer all remaining questions or concerns, we’ve invited A Greener Festival’s consultancy. In one hour class, they will share a lecture with a concrete action plan on how to work more environmentally friendly. Claire O'Neill (Co-Founder and Director of A Greener Festival) will show us how it’s done.

A Greener Festival (AGF) is a not-for-profit company, committed to helping events, festivals, and venues around the world to become more sustainable and to reduce environmental impacts. As pioneers in event sustainability since the first research in 2005, AGF provides certification, training, expertise, and facilitates the exchange of best practices internationally.

Claire O'Neill is Co-Founder and Director of A Greener Festival since 2006 delivering the greener festival/event certification internationally. Training assessors and sustainability managers worldwide and accrediting University degrees for sustainability in events and creative industries. Consultant and assessor of organizations including RHS, AEG Presents, Paradigm Agency, Dutch Government, Glastonbury Festival, and Roskilde Festival. Developed green artist rider with Paradigm, and working on Greener Arena and Greener Tour standards with the industry for implementation in 2021. The organizer of the annual Green Events & Innovations Conference (GEI) for 13 years, and Chair of the Green Working Group for the Association for Electronic Music (AFEM). As part of Arcadia Spectacular, Claire works as a Show Producer and Aerial Performer at Glastonbury Festival and on international tours. Claire is a Director of the not-for-profit arm “Arcadia Reach CIC”. Formerly General Manager of the Association of Independent Festivals, New Media Manager at Media Records, Ferry Logistics Manager, Bestival, Market, and Ents Manager Global Gathering.

Moderated by Laurence Boyce (Short Film Conference) (UK/Estonia)

Laurence Boyce started out at the Leeds International Film Festival in the UK to become an award-winning critic for various outlets, including Sight and Sound and Screen International. He currently resides in Tallinn, Estonia, where is the head of the program for the live-action section of PÖFF Shorts, a part of the A-List festival Black Nights. He is a member of BAFTA, FIPRESCI, the European Film Academy, London Critics’ Circle, and is on the board of the Short Film Conference.

On Tuesday, we will focus on Latvian examples as they share their thoughts on the ups and downs of making their events and performances more environmentally friendly.

Moderated by Eva Johansone (Latvia)

Culture journalist at Latvian Television, Coordinator of the Creative Europe project ACT: Art, Climate, Transition. After studying philosophy, Eva Johansone decided to study biology, gaining the skills and knowledge needed for a green biologist. At the same time, she makes documentaries, directs live broadcasts on Latvian Television, such as the Song Festival, Cultural News, and culture award ceremonies. She is currently the editor-in-chief of the environmental program Zaļgalvis. At the invitation of LJTI, Eva leads the Creative Europe project ACT: Art. Climate. Transition. She believes that in the language of art it is possible to talk more multilayered about the climate crisis and the role we all have in it.
