Ecosexual Mystique

In evolutionary terms, snakes are a primordial enemy. For thousands of generations, our bodies and brains have developed an instinctual aversion to them. In The Ecosexual Mystique, Pony Express attempt to overcome this barrier to form an imperfect, mutual bond with a pair of pythons. Glazing their arms in blood, the artists tempt the hungry snakes to bite them, then preserve the bite marks by rubbing their fresh wounds with tattoo ink. What does it feel like to defy an evolutionary boundary that runs this deep?
