Programme

The presentation, organized in collaboration with the Latvian Short Film Agency, will bring together the most significant short film festivals from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia, offering filmmakers, producers, and students a closer look at the Baltic festival landscape.

The presentation will be held in English on Wednesday, April 15 at 14:00 at the National Film School of the Latvian Academy of Culture.

Maksym Nakonechnyi is a Ukrainian director who has created both short fiction films and documentaries that have received recognition at major international festivals. In the masterclass, the director will share his creative experience, focusing on the relationship between cinema and politics, as well as reflecting on working in wartime and socially complex conditions. He will also speak about the journey of his films through the international festival circuit, offering insight into how personal and political experiences shape cinematic language, the author’s approach, and creative practice.

The masterclass will be held in English on Wednesday, April 15, at 17:30 at Kaņepes Culture Centre.

Māris Šverns is a Latvian musician, best known for his work with the band "Baložu Pilni Pagalmi". He began his musical career together with his childhood friend Raimonds Lagimovs (Dambis), recording songs together and forming the band "Inokentijs Mārpls" in 1985 (at the time under the name "Aklā zarna"). Šverns formed the band "Baložu Pilni Pagalmi" in 1994 together with drummer Uldis Gedra and bassist Juris Mežeckis. In 2015, an album of cover versions of M. Šverns’ songs titled “Brāļi un māsas” was released, featuring recordings by artists such as Elizabete Balčus, Satellites LV, Inokentijs Mārpls, Gaujarts, Alis P, Laika suns, Pieneņu vīns, the Juventus choir, and Oranžās brīvdienas.
