The festival slogan this year is A MAN: A HERO. A LOVER. A FOOL. Before the start of the festival, we kicked off a public discussion about the social roles, stereotypes and future challenges facing men, and took part with focus programmes at the festivals Laba Daba and Positivus. This September, 2ANNAS invites you to a thought-provoking and challenging film programme, which will elaborate on this theme with the latest films from all over the world focusing on the present and various events in history.
A crucial part of the festival is its competition. We take pride in the fact that more and more films are submitted for consideration every year! This year, out of nearly 1300 entered films, 61 were included into the programme. The most films were submitted for the International short film competition, in which the jury selected 36 films of all genres out of more than 1000 entries. The scope of the Baltic short film competition is also considerable this year – out of the 130 submitted films, 16 made it into the final. Notably, 60 films were submitted from Latvia. There will be two premieres during the festival – Laila Pakalniņa’s film Konfektes (Cukierer) and Reinis Spaile’s Tukšās zemes ritmi (Beats of an Empty Land). For the first time, 2ANNAS also includes an International mid-length film competition this year, with 9 fictional and documentary short films selected out of approximately 150 submitted in total.Let’s celebrate and enjoy good films together!
